Katy Perry has attacked the tabloid press through a series of comments made on Twitter. The singer was reacting to a tabloid attempt to stir trouble and create a rift between singer Britney Spears and herself.
The dispute started a week ago when Perry stated that product placement should be done with “style & grace”, a comment which tabloids took to be a dig at Britney Spears’ recent ‘Hold It Against Me’ video, which reportedly earned $500,000 in product placement alone.
However, Perry was keen to state that this wasn’t the case, defending product placement on the whole for both herself and on Spears’ behalf. She said: “Dear tabloid media aka FILTH: pls note I expressed an overall feeling bout product placement, their roles in vids & the art of them being complimenting or sticking out.”
“Most, if not ALL popsters welcome deals w/products 2 offset costs of big budget vids in these recessional music industry times. I'VE used them in MY vids before & am happy 2b able 2 make a better vid because of.”
She added: “Once AGAIN, stop pitting artists against artist for ur sensational satisfaction & stick to what ur best @: lying, gossiping, exaggerating & overall lending a hand 2 the deterioration of a generation.”
