Adele has managed to maintain her strong run of recent success by topping both the UK albums and singles charts again this week. The London-born singer has now earned her fifth consecutive week at Number One with her sophomore album. ‘21’.
Adele last week managed to become the only artist other than The Beatles to have two entries in both the albums and singles charts – a feat that she has maintained again this week. Not only is ‘21’ still at the top spot, but her critically-acclaimed debut ‘19’ has risen all the way to Number Two, 102 weeks after it was initially released.
In terms of the singles chart, Adele’s ‘Someone Like You’ has managed to once again keep Jessie J and Rihanna at bay, helped largely by a well-received performance at the BRIT awards a fortnight ago. The singer sold more than 110,000 copies of the track, clocking up a six-figure sales record for the second week in a row.
Speaking on the success, Martin Talbot of the Official Chart Company said: "Adele is proving to truly be the star of 2011. Her album has already become the must-have release of the year and for 'Someone Like You' to top 100,000 sales for two successive weeks demonstrates what a huge hit it is."
The only new entry in the top ten came from Alexis Jordan. The singer managed to earn the Number Six spot with her second single, ‘Good Girl’.
