Glastonbury Announce 13 More Acts

Following last weeks’ announcement of U2 as the final headliner for the Pyramid stage, Glastonbury have today announced 13 further acts as they begin to fill out their line up for the festival which will run from 22-26th June.

Emily Eavis announced the list during an interview with ‘The Guardian’ while also revealing that Primal Scream will headline Friday night on the Other Stage with Mumford & Sons 2010 success leading to a leap from early evening in the John Peel Tent last year to playing below Primal Scream on Fridays’ bill.

Other heavyweight announcements included are dance act The Chemical Brothers who have been heavily rumoured to also headline the Other Stage, blues legend BB King, highly regarded newcomer Janelle Monae and Fleet Foxes. The acts join U2, Coldplay and Beyonce as the confirmed acts for the 2011 event.

During the interview Emily also commented on her excitement at finally booking U2 after he father has been trying to get them to the Worthy Farm site for many years saying "when people hear those anthems in that field it will just be amazing, you can't really go wrong with those songs."

She also commented on the criticism levelled at the booking of Beyonce, saying she expects the pop diva to put on a show that will be remembered for all the right reasons despite not being a traditional festival headliner "I think when you've been in a field for four days you want something from a completely different sphere, that takes you somewhere else. It will be good to get a bit of female power at the end. She'll pack a punch and give us a fitting send off."

In other Glastonbury related news the festival continues to push on with their eco themes, offering gifts for people who reduce their carbon footprint. All festival goers who arrive using public transport will be given solar showers, compost toilets and discounts at food stalls. With over half of the festivals total emissions caused by transport to and from the event the Eavis’s are aiming to increase the number of people using public transport by 50% with the initiative.

Having used the buses myself last year I can definitely recommend this mode of transport for a much more stress free way of sitting in the inevitable queues through Pilton!

More announcements for the festival are expected in the coming weeks with deposits needing to be paid up during the first week of April. Ticket re-sales for returned tickets will open sometime in April or May, a date is yet to be confirmed.

Newly confirmed acts:

- BB King
- Big Boi
- The Chemical Brothers
- Crystal Castles
- Friendly Fires
- Fleet Foxes
- Gruff Rhys
- James Blake
- Janelle Monae
- Mumford & Sons
