The Quails - Games With The Devil (Single Review)

Perhaps the best known band from the town of Teignmouth, apart from the mighty Muse of course, there’s a warmth to their polished new single that suggests the band may be on the up.

Taken from their sophomore record, 'Master of Imperfection', 'Games With the Devil' has a punchy chorus and instrumental ambition that was perhaps missing from their previous indie pop ventures.

Dan Steer’s vocals have improved, echoing Franz Ferdinand’s Alex Kapranos at points, and the guitar ‘solo’ stays on the right side of cheesy at the latter end of the track. Perhaps not hip enough to get NME knocking just yet, but this is fun and more accomplished stuff from the Devon four-piece.
