Big Country to Release New Compilation ‘Fields of Fire’ Next Month

Sunday, 20 March 2011 Written by Rob Sleigh

Reformed Scottish rockers Big Country are to release a new compilation album entitled ‘Fields of Fire – The Ultimate Collection’ on 18th April. The album, which is named after the band’s original Top 10 single and taken from their 1983 debut album ‘The Crossing’, features all of the hits from their 20-year career, as well as a selection of rarities. The reformed Big Country line-up, which includes former Alarm singer Mike Peters on lead vocals, are to coincide the release of ‘Fields of Fire’ with a full UK tour. See below for dates.

Big Country were founded in 1981 by former Skids frontman Stuart Adamson and went on to record eight albums between 1983 and 1999. Their most successful album was their debut ‘The Crossing’, which has been certified Gold in both the UK and the US since its 1983 release. However, their subsequent three albums, including 1984’s Number One hit ‘Steeltown’, were also very successful in the UK and gave the band a number of Top 10 singles during the ’80s.

Big Country’s 20-year career came to a tragically abrupt end in 2001, when Adamson passed away following the band’s final tour. In 2007, the remaining members decided to celebrate the singer’s memory and the 25th anniversary of Big Country with a reunion tour, with bassist Tony Butler taking over on lead vocals. Last year, they returned once again, this time with The Alarm’s Mike Peters for a New Year’s Eve performance in Glasgow. They have since followed the success of that show with a 30th anniversary tour earlier this year and have now announced further dates for April. They are also due to play the Isle of Wight festival on Friday 10th June.
