TV On The Radio Announce Wireless Festvial Warm-Up Shows & Tickets

TV on the Radio have announced UK warm up shows for their support slot with Pulp at this year's Wireless Festival.

TV On The Radio are a versatile, experimental group from New York, encompassing elements of jazz, rock, psychedelia and trip-hop in their music. Their masterful forays into different areas of music have involved collaborations with any number of big names, including Trent Reznor, Massive Attack and even David Bowie, who cites the group as a favourite of his.

The indie rockers were recently dealt a tragic blow with the news that bassist Gerard Smith had been diagnosed with lung cancer. Smith, who luckily has life insurance, is expected to not join TV on the Radio on their forthcoming tour, and will instead be receiving treatment for his condition.

The sad news comes just before the band are due to release their hiatus-ending new album ‘Nine Types of Light’, out on April 12th. They had been on a year long break after a year of touring following their previous album ‘Dear Science’.

The band released this statement following the announcement of Smith’s ordeal. “Upon the completion of 'Nine Types of Light', Gerard was diagnosed with lung cancer. As a result, he has been undergoing treatment and will be unable to participate in the upcoming tour. Gerard is fortunate enough to have health insurance and is receiving excellent medical care. Already we have seen dramatic results. Combine that with Gerard's legendarily willful disposition and it might just be cancer that has the problem. We appreciate your concern and support for Gerard and his family.”
