Radiohead Record Store Day Tracks Appear Online – Listen Now

Monday, 18 April 2011 Written by James Conlon

Two Radiohead songs released as a limited-edition vinyl for Record Store Day this week have appeared online. The songs, entitled ‘Supercollider’ and ‘The Butcher’ were recorded during the same sessions as ‘The King Of Limbs’.

Only 2000 copies of the vinyl were pressed and released for Record Store Day, which saw music fans celebrate their local music outlets this Saturday (April 16th). Although neither track has been formally released before, the band have performed ‘Supercollider’ during previous live shows.

Meanwhile, Radiohead’s Ed O’Brien has put an end to speculation that ‘The King Of Limbs’ will be followed by a second set of material from the same sessions. Ever since the Oxford band released the album in February this year, fans have suggested that the eight-track LP was the first in a two-part album release.

However, speaking about the band’s Record Store Day contribution, O’Brien put an end to the debate. He told BBC 6 Music: "’The Butcher’ is from the King Of Limbs sessions. ‘Supercollider’ was recorded during that period and finished off after the album came out. There are [other] songs that we have started, that we never finished, but there's not like seven or eight finished songs waiting in the wings to be released now, or in the autumn, or something.".

He continued: "When we start a new record, we tend to start afresh. It's kind of an evolutionary thing - only the fittest survive."
