Shayne Ward has reacted positively to the news that he has been dropped by Simon Cowell’s record label, telling fans that he is still "great” despite the termination of his contract.
Ward has become the second ‘X Factor’ winner to be dropped by the label within a week, following on from the recent termination of Joe McElderry’s contract. Label bosses are said to have been unhappy with the performance of Ward’s most recent studio album ‘Obsession’, which peaked at Number Fifteen in the UK albums chart.
Ward has now become the fourth male winner of the ‘X Factor’ to be dropped by the record company. A spokesperson for Simon Cowell’s label confirmed the news today, saying: "After five very successful years and an international career which saw him sell over 3.2 million records, Shayne's contract has come to an end."
However, Ward was resilient when faced with the news, messaging the 85,000 fans on his Twitter account: "To all my Fans I am great! Remember Business is business! 1 door closed, A Thousand more will open."
After winning the second series of the ‘X Factor’, Ward went on to score four top ten singles, earning the 2005 Chrismas Number One spot with ‘That’s My Goal’.
