Jamie Cullum was the surprise special guest at the Opening Ceremony of the 64th Festival de Cannes (Cannes Film Festival) last night.
Jamie was specially chosen to perform a tribute to Robert de Niro, this year's Chairman of the festival jury. In front of a glittering audience at Cannes' Palais des Festival, Jamie's mashup of Sinatra's 'New York New York' and 'Empire State of Mind' (made famous by Alicia Keys and Jay-Z) had members of the festival jury, including Urma Thurman, dancing on the stage during the performance. The audience included Owen Harris, Antonio Banderas, Salma Hayek, and Woody Allen whose film Midnight in Paris was previewed directly following the opening ceremony.
Jamie said "de Niro's a film legend who defines what cinema is all about. It's amazing to have the opportunity to honour him."
