Jim James has released the title track from his upcoming album, 'Wowed Out'.
Stripped back yet hypnotising, the dreamy song follows Come Again in previewing the My Morning Jacket frontman's first solo recording in eight years, which is set to arrive on August 28 via ATO Records. He said:
"Lately I’ve been really into music like Alice Coltrane’s spiritual recordings, where it’s just her and organ praying together, and there’s no major event. I wanted these songs to feel like a journey that takes you somewhere rewarding, without always trying for some big dramatic payoff like a massive chorus or a huge guitar solo."
The Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter, whose last solo album was 2018's 'Uniform Distortion', which was followed by a companion record 'Uniform Clarity', will headline a solo acoustic set at the annual Song Summit in Park City, Utah on release day.
He'll also celebrate the album with several solo headline shows later this year, beginning on November 28 at the Kentucky Performing Arts' Brown Theatre in Jones' hometown of Louisville, Kentucky, followed by dates in Chicago, New York, Boston, Boulder and Glendale in early December. Check back for ticket details.
In addition to his own shows, James will play a seven-night residency with My Morning Jacket at The Fillmore in San Francisco between October 3 and 11, tickets for which are on sale now. The band released their most recent studio album, 'Is', last year, followed by 'Peacelands', an "album of acoustic peaceful protest songs", in May.
