Pete Doherty Jailed For Six Months

Pete Doherty has been sentenced to six months in jail after being convicted of cocaine possession. The Libertines and Babyshambles singer appeared at Snaresbrook Crown Court in London this morning (May 20th), where he pleaded guilty to possessing the class A drug.

The verdict came after a police investigation was launched following the death of Doherty’s friend, filmmaker Robin Whitehead. Ms. Whitehead had been filming a documentary about the 32-year-old singer when she was found dead in an East London flat.

Today Judge David Radford asserted that Doherty had provided Whitehead with crack cocaine, but deemed that he was not responsible for her death.

He said: "Police became aware of the relevant evidence because of the investigation which followed the discovery of the sad death of a young woman who had been present at the address where the offences had been committed.”

Judge Radford continued: "The offences involved the social supply of crack cocaine in a crack cocaine pipe, which you handed to that person. I make it clear though, abundantly clear, that the young woman's death was not caused by that supply of crack cocaine."

Doherty was scheduled to perform at Glasgow Barrowlands this evening. A spokesperson for the venue confirmed that the show would be postponed until further notice.
