Last night saw Britpop legends Suede kick off the first of three sell out nights at London’s Brixton O2 Academy. Since Suede hit the stage, the band’s Facebook and Twitter sites have been inundated with ecstatic fans posting comments and videos of their experiences. The band played their entire 1993 debut album 'Suede' in order followed by a selection of B Sides and some of their biggest hits including 'Trash' and 'Beautiful Ones'.
Suede will bring their live show to Dublin next week performing on Tuesday 24th, Wednesday 25th and Thursday 26th at the Olympia Theatre where they will treat fans to live airings of three of their classic albums alongside a collection of hits and rarities from their extensive back catalogue.
Tuesday 24th May - Olympia Theatre, Dublin - performing their self titled Mercury award winning debut
Wednesday 25th - Olympia Theatre, Dublin - performing 'Dog Man Star'
Thursday 26th - Olympia Theatre, Dublin - performing 'Coming Up'
The band that radically shifted the axis of British music in the 1990's, Suede were famously proclaimed as ‘The Best New Band In Britain’ on the cover of Melody Maker before they released their debut CD, ‘The Drowners’, in 1992. The claim was cemented after their debut self-titled album was awarded the Mercury Music Prize. During that time the group effectively instigated a new focus on British guitar music which had been largely eclipsed by grunge before their emergence. Their inexorable rise saw them become one of the biggest groups in the country, a success which was replicated in many countries around the world.
In 2003, after five albums, the group split. They returned triumphantly last March, playing three incredible and critically acclaimed shows including London's Royal Albert Hall in aid of Teenage
Cancer Trust.
