Wiley and Chipmunk Collaborator Emeli Sande Announces Debut Single ‘Heaven’ – Listen Now

Tuesday, 14 June 2011 Written by Rob Sleigh

Singer-songwriter Emeli Sande has announced details of her debut single ‘Heaven’, which is due for release on 15th August. The multi-instrumentalist has previously collaborated with the likes of Professor Green, Tinie Tempah and Tinchy Stryder, although she is probably best-known for her vocal contributions to the Top 10 hits ‘Diamond Rings’ and ‘Never Be Your Woman’ by Chipmunk and Wiley respectively.

Emeli has been into music since the age of 11, when she began playing piano, and has since taken inspiration from artists such as Nina Simone, Roberta Flack and Joni Mitchell. Speaking about her influences, Emeli said: “I can still relate to a Joni song, even though it’s 25 years old. That’s the main and important thing to me. I’m not too bothered about my music fitting in to a particular category. There’s no point in limiting who you can reach. But I want to be respected.”

Having previously written tracks by a number of other artists, Emeli is now looking to make a name for herself as a solo artist. Following a recent performance supporting Alicia Keys at London’s Royal Albert Hall, Emeli will be playing at Scotland’s Northern Lights and Belladrum festivals.
