Birdy Unveils Video For New Song 'Shelter' - Watch Now

Following on from the success of her debut single, Birdy is set to release her raw interpretation of The xx’s ‘Shelter’ on July 18th.

In her short time in the public sphere, Birdy has already made some big fans at Radio 1 with Fearne Cotton this week announcing ‘Shelter’ as her Record Of The Week. This accolade was also awarded to Birdy’s debut single ‘Skinny Love’, which ended up spending 7 weeks on Radio 1’s A list. The single sold over 150,000 copies in the UK and the 2 videos for the track have had more than 3.5 million views on YouTube combined. ‘Skinny Love’ was also selected to feature in an episode of ‘Vampire Diaries’ and was in the top 10 alternative chart in iTunes in the US, France and Germany. The song obviously struck a nerve with many who may or may not have been familiar with the original version, but connected with her emotional delivery.

Expected this Autumn, Birdy is currently in the studio working on her debut album with James Ford (Arctic Monkeys, Last Shadow Puppets and Klaxons) and Jim Abbiss (Adele, Arctic Monkeys). Details of a new video for ‘Shelter’ will soon be unveiled. After working with Birdy on the ‘Skinny Love’ video, Sophie Muller (Kings of Leon, Radiohead and The Cure) will be at the helm of what’s sure to be another dark and beautiful creation. Watch this space for more news.

Birdy grew up in Hampshire with a large and incredibly musical family; practically every family member plays an instrument and her mother is a concert pianist.  She took up piano at the age of 4 and began writing music from the age of 7. Whilst she is a fan of modern music like The xx, Adele, Paolo Nutini and Bon Iver, she is also very passionate about classical music, and it is a heavy influence on her music. She commented, ‘I am determined to make music my career. I've always known it is a big part of my life.’
