Lady Gaga To Be Sued After Misappropriation Of Japanese Relief Funds

Lady Gaga is being sued by a Detroit legal team who claim that the ‘Born This Way’ singer pocketed cash from the sales of charity wristbands earlier this year. The singer announced the sale of her own “We Pray For Japan” wristbands within hours of the Japanese earthquake and tsunami on March 11th this year, however a Detroit legal network are now claiming that she profited from the charity scheme.

Gaga launched the wristbands on her official website, where they were sold for $5 each with the guarantee that “all proceeds go directly to Japan relief efforts”. However, the lawsuit is claiming that Lady Gaga knowingly kept part of the $5 paid by each customer for the wristbands, also intentionally boosting postage costs so that she could earn more profit from the ‘charity’ venture.

The lawsuit continues to claim that Gaga also declared the money she had pocketed in her official donation figures, intentionally boosting the numbers in order to earn more money from other potential donators.

The Detroit legal team claim that Gaga’s relief efforts were deceptive, using false advertising to earn personal profit from a charity venture – an action which breaks a number of US consumer protection laws and federal racketeering laws.

Neither Lady Gaga nor her legal team have commented on the claims at present. Meanwhile, Gaga headlined the MTV Video Music Aid Japan concert at the Makuhari Messe Arena near Tokyo on Saturday (June 25th).
