Gorillaz are a British virtual band, created by Blur’s Damon Albarn and comic book artist Jamie Hewlett, and featuring the animated characters, 2D, Murdoc Niccals, Noodle and Russel Hobbs.
Formed in 1998, the band released their self-titled debut album in 2001, which reached #3 in the UK Albums Chart, and featured the single, Clint Eastwood. It was followed by ‘Demon Days’, in 2005, which reached #1 in the UK Albums Chart and #6 in the Billboard Hot 200 and featured tracks, Feel Good Inc. and DARE. The band’s third album, ‘Plastic Beach’,came out in 2010, reaching #2 in the UK and USA, while ‘The Fall’, came out later that year, as a download for fans and gained a physical release in 2011. The band released their latest album, ‘Humanz’, in April 2017.
That year, Gorillaz headlined their own Demon Days Festival at Margate’s Dreamland in June, before heading out for a tour of North America and returning to the UK for more shows in December.
At the beginning of summer 2018, it was confirmed that Gorillaz will be releasing a brand new record - dubbed 'The Now Now' - at the end of June. It'll also see the virtual band joined by a new member, Ace, who will temporarily replace the incarcerated Murdoc.
2018 sees the band hit Dublin's Malahide Castle in June and Rock Werchter in Belgium in July, amongst other festival appearances. They've since confirmed a North American tour in support of their new album, too, as well as the details for this year's Demon Dayz Festival, which features Erykah Badu, The Internet, and more.
