Richard Ashcroft is a British singer-songwriter and musician, from Higher End, Wigan, best known as the frontman of The Verve and for his successful solo career.
Starting his music career in 1990, he formed the band The Verve, who released three albums, including ‘Urban Hymns’ in 1997, which reached #1 in the UK Albums Chart and spawned the #2 single Bitter Sweet Symphony and the #1 song The Drugs Don't Work. The band split in 1999 and reformed in 2007, releasing a fourth album, ‘Forth’ the following year, before splitting again in 2009.
Richard Ashcroft released his debut solo single, A Song for the Lovers, in 2000, which reached #3 in the UK Singles Chart. His debut solo album, ‘Alone with Everybody’, hit #1 in the UK Albums Chart. His second album, ‘Human Conditions’ came out in 2002, and charted at #3, followed by ‘Keys to the World’, in 2006 and ‘United Nations of Sound’ in 2010. He released ‘These People’ in May 2016.
Richard Ashcroft has now announced a new solo album, 'Natural Rebel', which is due for release on October 19, and accompanying UK tour dates both in December and May 2019.
