Brother Forced To Change Name To ‘Viva Brother’

Tuesday, 28 June 2011 Written by James Conlon

UK rock quartet Brother have been forced to change their name to Viva Brother following a legal dispute from an Australian band of the same name. The Aussie band, who currently perform in the US, threatened legal action against the NME favourites after the band began to gain popularity in America.

The UK band, who are prone to Gallagher-esque statements boasting about their talents, initially chose to change their name to Brother UK for their American audience. However, after a shift in decision the band have conceded and will change their name to Viva Brother on both sides of the Atlantic.

Speaking about the name change, lead singer Lee Newell said: “A long time ago in a galaxy far far away three men decided one day that it would be a good idea to start a band called Brother. Many, many years later four frighteningly handsome devils in the desolate, post apocalyptic wasteland of Slough decided to do the same thing.”

He continued: “But something called 'litigation' got in the way. However with this out of the way we do finally feel free. Brother is dead. Long Live Viva Brother!”

Viva Brother are set to release their debut album 'Famous Last Words' on August 1st. You can view the video for Viva Brother’s ‘New Year’s Day’ below:
