‘Hello’ singer Lionel Richie has been lined-up to perform at Radio 2’s Live in Hyde Park for his only UK performance of the year – and the star will be joined on the bill by American rock legend Lenny Kravitz, who appears in Britain for the first time in three years.
Live in Hyde Park’s bill is now proving to be one of the most impressive and desirable of the year as the all-star line-up shapes up to it's 'Festival in a Day' tagline. Now confirmed to play at the gig are Lionel Richie, Lenny Kravitz, Jools Holland and his band (joined by special guests Sandie Shaw and Ruby Turner), and Imelda May. Lionel Richie will be performing alongside the BBC Concert Orchestra for the gig on September 11th.
Lionel Richie is a recognised legend who has sold over 100,000,000 albums worldwide. Since his debut in 1982 the singer-songwriter-instrumentalist has been hitting #1s in the US, including his very first single ‘Truly’. He had experience in the music industry as far back as the 60s with band Commodores, which saw him rise to fame and eventually into song writing for famous musicians such as Kenny Rodgers. After the success of the songs he wrote, Lionel launched his own solo career and has been a star ever since.
Lenny Kravitz began recording his own material in 1985 after being rejected by labels who said his music was neither ‘black enough or white enough’. Having met talented producers and musicians along the way to stardom, the talented singer-songwriter put out his own debut album in 1989 which has now achieved gold status. He continued to write songs and has released a total of eight albums so far, to be followed by this year’s Black and White America, which will see released in late August.
If you’re a Lionel fan, a Kravitz fan, or a fan of both, get yourself down to Live in Hyde Park at Hyde Park this autumn – it may be your only chance to see either of the two stars for a long while to come.
