New wave rockers The Bible are set to reform for two special UK dates 17 years after their last release ‘Dreamlife’.
The Bible are one of those 80s bands that writers and singers often cite as one of their favourite bands of all time – they were critically acclaimed but never quite made the big commercial breakthrough. To mark the passing of 25 years since their first release, The Bible return for two very special concerts in Glasgow and London and release an extended and re-mastered edition of their debut album, ‘Walking The Ghost Back Home’.
Lead vocalist Boo Hewerdine is excited about the reunion and gave a personal statement regarding it:
“Every 80's band is reuniting. And my former group The Bible is no exception. We shall be playing a couple of gigs later this month. We've hardly changed at all! Though Neil does occasionally wear reading glasses these days. Not on stage of course. That's my trademark. Faulty eyes.
“It will be fun to relive those heady months when we were one of East Anglia's tallest outfits. Tony's a bit more discreet with the lippy of late - but he still knows how to pump his fist at the crowd. Once we nearly got played on Radio Cambridgeshire's Fen Only. Frustratingly, a gas mains went under the A14 and it had to be rescheduled for the following week.
“DJ Peter Tooth was arrested for forging pension books the following Wednesday and so it never came to pass. Shortly after this we split. No one told me for two years. So why not come along to the O2 ABC in Glasgow on Thursday September 29th and/or London at the Clapham Grand on Friday September 30th and swoon in awe, or something.”
The 2011 line up includes original members Boo Hewerdine, Tony Shepherd, Neill and Calum MacColl (the MacColls are brothers to the late lamented Kirsty and sons of folk legends Ewan MacColl & Peggy Seeger) and Leroy Lendor. They will be joined by drummer Martyn Barker (Shriekback, Ray Davies, Billy Bragg, Nick Cave) and sax player Kate St John (Tom Waits, Jarvis Cocker, Marianne Faithful).
If you want to catch the band live for their first gigs in over 15 years, check the dates and details below.
The Bible UK dates are as follows:
Thurs 29th September – O2 ABC, Glasgow
Fri 30th September – Clapham Grand, London
