Birmingham's Ballroom to Re-Open this Saturday

One of Birmingham’s longest-standing and most remembered nightclubs, formerly known as Top Rank, The Hummingbird and most recently Carling Academy, will re-open this Saturday with its new moniker – The Ballroom.

Lest we forget, The Ballroom holds a special place in the hearts of many. It boasts the biggest dance floor in the West Midlands, perfect for Strictly fans, and it has an astonishing history of classic rock gigs. The Ballroom is keen to support local rock acts with healthy bookings throughout October and in the future hopes to install a music training school.

And, for its debut night, it’ll be hosting ‘The Greatest Reggae Show’ on Earth. This highly-anticipated show will see the legendary king of Lovers Rock, Beres Hammond, meet the most talked-about reggae artiste of the last two years, Tarrus Riley. In fact, Hammond returns to the original venue where he launched his career in the UK.

Other events confirmed include the return of Birmingham’s Roller Disco, which will run every fortnight - it is amazingly still organised by the same person who ran it when the Ballroom was known as the Top Rank in the 1970’s! Also at the club is Death Cab for Cutie, one of the genuine independent successes of the American underground, who’ll be playing the Ballroom on November 18th.
