Manic Street Preachers to Perform at Invite Only Pub Gig

Legendary Welsh rockers The Manic Street Preachers will be playing their most intimate gig in years this Tuesday, as singer James Dean Bradfield and bassist Nicky Wire return to their local town of Swansea for an acoustic show in the Bay View pub.

Just a handful of days after their substantial donation to the charity scheme set-up following the tragic death of the Swansea Valley miners, the band decided to line-up an invite only gig at a pub just around the corner from Wire’s old school.

Only 100 people will be able to make it inside the pub tomorrow, so security will have to think smart – but landlady Sam Wardley isn’t too concerned, and is pleased to have secured such an exclusive event at her pub.

“We are really looking forward to having the Manics here. We have a reputation for having good live acts here, and I think that stood us in good stead, because we got a call asking if we wanted to stage their gig.

“I'm Welsh, and I've known the band for more than half my life, so it is really exciting to host the gig, which has been sponsored by StudentDigz.”

Another local artist, DJ Badger, will host the show, and is equally excited.

“We put on gigs every few months, and to get the Manics is fantastic for Swansea. We chose the Bay View because Nicky used to go there when he was a student in university.

“The response to this one has been amazing. We've had a huge number of people entering to get tickets, but there is only space for around 100. I've seen the Manics many times, but never in a venue so intimate, so I am really looking forward to it.”
