Sex Pistols’ Glen Matlock and The Pretenders’ Martin Chambers Announce New Supergroup

Tuesday, 11 October 2011 Written by Rob Sleigh

Former Sex Pistols bassist Glen Matlock (pictured above) and The Pretenders drummer Martin Chambers have joined forces with vocalist Stephen “Snips” Parsons and guitarists Chris Spedding and Sixteen to form the new English beat combo King Mob.

The supergroup are to release their debut album ‘Force 9’ on 31st October and have announced an upcoming live date in London. The album will be preceded by the single ‘Selene Selene’, with an accompanying video expected to be released soon.

Glen Matlock is probably known best for being the original bass player in seminal English punk band The Sex Pistols from their formation in 1975 until he was replaced by Sid Vicious two years later. He has also taken part in all of the band’s reunions over the past 15 years. More recently, Matlock joined the recently reformed Faces as the band’s bassist alongside new singer Mick Hucknall, who has taken over vocal duties from original frontman Rod Stewart.

Guitarist Chris Spedding has previously performed and recorded with the likes of Roxy Music, Elton John, Paul McCartney and Katie Melua. He also played guitar on Jeff Wayne’s 1978 album ‘The War of the Worlds’. Martin Chambers played drums for The Pretenders from their formation in 1978 until the mid-80s. He later returned to the group in 1993 and has remained with them ever since.

King Mob UK Live Dates are as follows:

Thursday 17th November 2011 – 229 The Venue, London
