Nirvana For Xmas No1 Campaign Gathers Momentum

First it was Rage Against the Machine who managed to rage against the X-Factor machine when they pipped Simon Cowell’s reality pop army to Christmas #1 in 2009 with their classic ‘Killing in the Name Of’. Now it seems as though Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Spirit will be the second in the line to beat this year’s X-Factor hopefuls to festive glory.

Yet again it is a Facebook group that has sparked the plan to put Kurt Cobain and co at the top of the festive charts as they attempt to stop the likes of Amelia Lily, who is currently favourite with the bookies to win this year's competition and Cowell’s money-making machine SyCo.

And, although there has been a Facebook group for every song to become Christmas #1 since Rage Against the Machine did it just two years ago, this group is actually getting gaining huge momentum – it’s already garnered 88,300 ‘likes’ and is second favourite behind Lily, with odds sitting at 4/1 with the bookies. Lily has odds of 7/2.

Other names on the list to make it Christmas #1 are ex-X-Factor band’s JLS and One Direction, who both sit at 20/1, in front of Justin Bieber, Rage Against the Machine and The Wurzels at 25/1. Amy Winehouse is perched at 12/1, behind the cast of The Only Way Is Essex (TOWIE) – who covered George Michael’s classic ‘Last Christmas’.
