New Nickelback App Blocks Every Mention Of Band From Internet

While some of you may be fans of Canadian rockers Nickelback, the internet certainly has a massive share of those who loathe them. So isn’t it about time there was an app that completely removed any mention of the band on the net for you? Over the top you might think – but programmers at Aux.com have created one.

‘Nickelblock’ is a tool for Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome which, when installed, blocks EVERY mention of the band from the net, so you don’t have to spend your surfing hours reading about what seems to be one of the most hated bands in existence.

And that’s not an exaggeration – it’s not just Aux.com and their partners Free Art and Technology who hate Nickelback, there have been many reports of sites and protests against the band, who have 15 years and seven studio albums under their belt. We’ve got a few examples for your entertainment.

Back in 2007 (or even earlier perhaps), a video and mp3 file swept around the net which highlighted just how samey Nickelback tracks sound. We all know bands have a signature style and sound, but one blog in 2007 decided to tempo match two of their biggest hits (‘How You Remind Me’ and ‘Someday’), which were released two years apart, and play them at the same time – and it was pretty scary how damn similar the two tracks are. The author was a particularly anti-Nickelback writer, and deemed them a “lazy, talentless bunch of wankers.”

Moving out of the realm of the internet, it emerged earlier this month that a number of Detroit Lions fans (50,000 to be exact) had been so unhappy at the decision to book Nickelback to perform at half-time during their Thanksgiving game against the Green Bay Packers that they’d signed a PETITION to have the band removed from the bill. The protests may seem a little harsh but it’s not entirely surprising for a band that finished top of internet dating site Tastebud.fm’s survey of musical turn-offs – even beating Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga.

Despite managing to harbour an unprecedented amount of hate, the band have still also managed to be an unquestionably successful band – releasing their latest album ‘Here and Now’ just two days ago.
