George Michael's Voice At Risk From Pneumonia Treatment

Pop and new wave singing icon George Michael may be suffering long-term damage to his voice from the treatment he’s receiving for his battle with pneumonia, it has been reported.

Michael was forced to pull out of a handful of UK tour dates recently after coming down with the respiratory condition, and was taken to a hospital in Vienna, Austria, before being placed into intensive care. Doctors have placed him onto a ventilator – and have admitted that the machine, which pumps air in and out of his lungs, could alter or damage his prized singing voice.

“It depends how long he spends on the ventilator,” Michael’s doctor Dr Gerrit Wohlt explained, “but in the worst case his illness could seriously affect his singing capacity. The pressure is very close to his vocal cords and it could affect them.”

While he is in intensive care, Michael’s publicist has reassured fans that the star “is getting really great care. He's doing fine and he just needs to rest.”

After postponing all of his UK tour dates, Michael’s team confirmed that October’s cancelled London show in Royal Albert Hall has been rearranged to go ahead on May 2nd next year. The remaining cancelled shows haven’t yet been rescheduled but are due to be set-up soon – and Stereoboard will be the first to inform you when they are. You can check the postponed dates below.
