Coldplay Confess They Had Fears Over X-Factor Performance

London-based alternative rockers Coldplay have confessed that they were a little scared of performing on the X-Factor, as they feared their fans may have gotten the wrong idea.

Despite being extremely grateful for the chance to perform on the show, the band aren’t naive and recognised that their fans could have been upset at their decision to perform on the talent show, and that they were giving their haters a huge batch of ammunition against them.

“There has been a lot of discussion over whether this was a good idea - not least within the Coldplay camp itself,” frontman Chris Martin admitted. “I remember first hearing that it was a possibility.’Man, you're handing haters some pretty huge bullets there,' was my first thought. The downsides are obvious.”

He went on to say: “It now becomes effortless for the cool kids to lay out their case against the band. For some, The X Factor is the devil. It is regularly painted as the source of all evil in the current music industry. Indeed, as an angry young man back in my own student days, I'd have ranted at length against it.”

Martin also revealed that one of their Roadie’s claimed that “fucking up [the X-Factor performance] could be more of a big deal than if Glastonbury had gone wrong.”
