Louis Walsh Tried To Stop Westlife Split

Irish boy-band Westlife are set to split up after their 2012 Farewell tour, much to the dismay of manager Louis Walsh – who, according to the band, tried to stop the break-up when he found out.

Walsh was the man who stuck the lads together back in 1998, so was understandably upset when they told him they’d be going their separate ways next year. Initially, Walsh didn’t believe the band when they filled him in – then, when it had sunk in, Walsh told them all they would be making a mistake – and begged them to reconsider. But now that it’s public knowledge, it seems Walsh has finally come to understand that enough is enough for Westlife.

Kian Egan explained the Daily Mail: “At first, Louis said, ‘No, don’t be silly. It won’t happen. It will sort itself out.’ Then I told him we were thinking of putting out a Greatest Hits album and that the next tour will be the last. When I told him that the thought of breaking up was in everybody’s mind, he said: ‘No, no, no!’

“Then, when we were out in Asia just recently, I emailed him the press statement announcing the split. He repeated that he thought it was a mistake, but once it was made public, Louis seems to have come around.”

Mark Feehily continued the story, telling the newspaper: “I really don’t think any one person can be either blamed or take responsibility for the end of Westlife. There was no one incident that resulted in an argument and somebody stomping their foot and saying, ‘Right that’s it. It’s over!’ Everyone slowly started coming round to the same way of thinking, and we waited until we were all of the same mind before we took it seriously.”

Westlife fans will have their last ever chance to catch the band live when they tour the country in May next year. If you want tickets, check the dates and details below.
