The King of Pop Michael Jackson is set to release a posthumous album of songs based on Scottish poet Robert Burn’s work.
It is the same work which David Gest, a long-time friend of late Jacksons, talked about on his appearance on ‘I’m a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here’ around four years ago, and were intended to be part of a musical – but it never came round into being after potential directors and producers Gene Kelly and Anthony Perkins both passed away.
Gest has now told BBC Alba: “We went to his recording studio at the [Jackson] family house in Encino, where all the Jacksons grew up and we took about eight or 10 of Burns's poems and we put them to contemporary music, things like 'A Red Red Rose' and 'A Fond Kiss' and the story of 'Tam O'Shanter'.”
He went on to say that the unreleased album was given to the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum, who have now also confirmed that there is some activity going on with the tracks.
“We understand there was some discussion about the donation of some musical materials,” a museum spokesperson revealed. “If it goes ahead it will be an exciting addition.”
