Etta James' Funeral Set For Saturday 28th January

The funeral of late soul singer Etta James will take place this Saturday (January 28th), in Gardena, Los Angeles.

The funeral will be a private event but will follow on from a public viewing ceremony, which will take place on the previous day in Inglewood, Los Angeles. James died at the age of 73 on Friday January 20th last week, and would have celebrated her 74th birthday today.

The funeral will be headed by Reverend Al Sharpton and attended by dozens of celebrity friends and family – some of which will be performing at the event, according to an official statement from a representative. It’s unknown what stars and artists are set to perform. Family members have asked that any donations be sent to the Rhythm and Blues Foundations in Philadelphia.

Etta James died after long battle with Leukaemia, and also suffered from kidney disease, hepatitis-C and dementia, but passed away peacefully at the side of her husband Artis Miller and her two sons Donto and Sametto.

Her long-time friend and manager Lupe de Leon released this statement following her death: “This is a tremendous loss for the family, her friends and fans around the world. She was a true original who could sing it all - her music defied category. I worked with Etta for over 30 years. She was my friend and I will miss her always.”
