The Pirate Bay Could Be Blocked For Whole Of UK

The Pirate Bay, one of the world’s leading sites for torrent-ing and file-sharing, could be blocked for UK users soon as a new court ruling has stated that the site breaches copyright rules.

A large number of record labels and music companies are calling for the site to be blocked, and the group managed to win a court case yesterday which could lead to the site being closed down for British users altogether. The full decision as to whether the Pirate Bay will be blocked will be made in June – but the court ruling yesterday means its swaying towards the decision of a total out-ruling of the site.

Geoff Taylor, chief executive of the British Phonographic Industry, told the Guardian: “The high court today ruled that The Pirate Bay is illegal. The site defrauds musicians and causes huge damage to the music industry and wider creative industries... The ruling helps clarify the law on website blocking and we will now proceed with our application to have the site blocked to protect the UK's creative industries from further harm.”

The owners of the site have already had to cough up £4.1million in the past after being found guilty of copyright infringement, but they’ve continued to operate and hope to for as long as possible.
