Buranovo Grannies To Represent Russia At Eurovision

Eurovision isn’t a particularly good representation of music from our continent, nor is it a good representation of the musical talent each country holds – with votes seemingly politics based rather than performance based nowadays. But even after considering those points, Russia has probably left itself with little chance of success – after choosing a team of Old-Aged Pensioners as their entry to this year’s competition.
The ‘Buranovo Grannies’ are a group of six women aged from 50-76 years old, who have somehow managed to mix old school folk with modern blends of pop, and turn it into something which Russian officials think would be best to showcase their country’s ability to perform. Usually, the grey-haired bunch would cover tracks – but this time will be performing their own piece; ‘Party For Everybody’.
What’s more interesting is that according to the BBC, the group was picked over 24 other acts and musicians – including a former winner of the competition and a ‘popular rap star’. The group have also stated that any proceeds they make will go towards building a church in their hometown of Buranovo, adding that “grandmothers do not need glory and wealth.”
You can check a video of the group performing below.
