M.I.A Gets Into Twitter Fight With American News Presenter Anderson Cooper

London-based hip-hop singer-songwriter M.I.A last night became embroiled in an argument with CNN anchor Anderson Cooper – with the ‘Paper Planes’ singer claiming that Cooper called her a ‘terrorist’.

The comments came after a Channel 4 documentary about Sri Lanka’s secret war with the Tamil Tigers, a separatist militant organization – something which M.I.A and her father, who is a prominent Tamil activist, are very passionate about.

So, taking to Twitter, the star wrote: “I got accused of 'supporting terrorism', 'mis-representing Tamils', glamourising a war, using it for my own gain, having bad grammar. This C4 #killingfields doc makes the points I couldn't make.”

She continued: “Anderson Cooper called me a terrorist for speaking out, and expressed support for the SLgov (Sri Lankan government) when this (killing) was happening. I thought AC (Anderson Cooper) was a fair news reporter until the SL killings took place and he kept his silence! Disappointed!”

But Cooper returned with an ice-cold reply, tweeting: “You are mistaken. I never called you a terrorist. I don't even know who you are other than the lady who sang at the Superbowl.”

The pair continued to exchange tweets, before M.I.A decided to end the heated discussion with the message “im glad u understand but please watch #killingfields because this is what i was trying to say.”

It’s not the first time M.I.A has argued with someone about the Sri Lankan government, with the star getting involved in a spat with New York Times writer Lynn Hirschberg over an article she posted in 2010.
