23 year-old Rakim Mayers, a.k.a rapper A$AP Rocky, was forced to end his set at South by Southwest’s long-running SXSW Music Festival early this year – after an audience member stole a green do-rag from and threw beers at Rocky and his group, causing them to dive into the crowd and start a brawl.
The rapper was performing as part of the Vice Kills Texas party, which was held in a warehouse in Austin as part of the nine-day SXSW festivities and put on a aggressive and wild set, with temperatures inside the place reaching volatile levels.
So, when one member of the crowd grabbed a green bandana worn by one of Rocky’s crew during a brief stage-dive, the gig was halted – as the group demanded the crowd return the item. After no-one owned up to the theft, they demanded that the lights in the warehouse be turned on, so they could single out a suspect.
Then, when someone began throwing beers and other stuff onstage, one of the crew promised he would ‘fuck them up’ – and it all went downhill from there. The ensuing fighting and object-throwing, which saw both the group and the crowd launching missiles at each other before a huge fight, can be seen in the video below.
