American rapper-songwriter Nas has confessed that he almost rejected the idea of collaborating with late superstar Amy Winehouse on her posthumous album – because he saw Winehouse as his ‘sister’.
Speaking via Billboard, Nas revealed that the track ‘Like Smoke’ almost didn’t happen because ‘part of him didn’t want to do the song’. Nas went on to talk about their relationship and how he was hoping that Winehouse would ‘pull through and come back’.
“Part of me didn't want to do the song. Amy and I share a birthday, so she was my sister,” he revealed. “And she was just so much fun to be around. She would say things about well-known people in the industry that she didn't like and it would just crack me up… We were all hoping she would pull through and come back.”
It follows on from the comments he made in December when the album dropped, with Nas quoted as saying: “It's a bittersweet feeling to do something with her now that she's not here. I'm happy… the sweet part is that we do have the music, fans have new music from her.”
Nas is set to drop his latest album ‘Life is Good’ in the very near future, and released the second single ‘Life is Good’ just a couple of days ago. You can check the track out below.
