Mumford & Sons Say American Police Expected 'Riot' At 'Big Easy Express' Film Premier

Folk rockers Mumford & Sons launched their new film ‘Big Easy Express’, which they produced alongside Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros and Old Crow Medicine Show, at SXSW – and the band have told NME that police thought there’d be a riot when they arrived in Texas via their tour train.

The film follows Mumford & Sons alongside the two bands as they toured the US as part of the ‘Railroad Revival’ – which saw them travel by train carriage to each leg of the tour. When they finished the tour, and rode the train to their final show – which was held in Marfa, Texas, prior the SXSW film viewing – they were greeted police - who were expecting a riot to break out amongst fans.

“We were greeted by cops, who tried to stop us going into town, because they thought there'd be a riot, Marcus Mumford told the site. “Then we got there and there were like, five people and a dog... Apparently they got the governor of Texas involved to get us through.”

He went on to talk about the ‘Railroad Revival’ tour itself – saying that he thought ‘it was unlikely that it would happen because it was a logistical nightmare’.

He continued: “It was almost impossible to pull off and for it to work and for people not to lose all their money. If you're out to make cash dollar, renting 12 vintage train cars to tour is probably not the best way to do it. And also inviting all your mates! There were 130 people on the train.”

You can catch Mumford & Sons alongside Ed Sheeran, Biffy Clyro and many more at this year’s RockNess Festival. Click here to Compare & Buy Mumford & Sons Tickets at Stereoboard.
