Sir Paul McCartney Claims 'One Direction Shouldn't Be Called The Next Beatles'

Sir Paul McCartney has told press that he thinks that the public should stop comparing X-Factor boyband One Direction, who have seemingly taken the states by storm, to his old world-beating band The Beatles – as it’ll create too much pressure for the boys.
One Direction are only one album into their career but have already managed to secure a firm grip on both the British and the American pop music scene, with their first ever tour alongside US counterparts Big Time Rush resulting in the ‘What Makes You Beautiful’ singers earning their own headline tour - with their debut release hitting #1 in the US Albums charts.
The success has lead to the group being likened to legendary 60s rockers The Beatles on many different occasions – something which McCartney thinks will be unhealthy for the group.
Macca told ITV’s Daybreak: “There are so many bands who all get called 'the next Beatles'. Suddenly it puts an awful lot of pressure on them to be the next Beatles. Oasis were 'the next Beatles' once if you remember. It's a pressure, because suddenly you've got to live up to all the things that we did, and it was a different time. So let's just call them 'the next terrific band'. They're doing well in America. It's good - good luck, lads.”
