Hole's Eric Erlandson Claims Nirvana Legend Kurt Cobain Recorded Solo Album Before Death

Eric Erlandson, former guitarist of alternative rockers Hole, has claimed that grunge icon Kurt Cobain recorded an album’s worth of solo material before he took his own life back in 1994 – though he admitted that he was unsure whether the tracks would see the light of day.

ImageErlandson told American television station Fuse that Cobain had begun to progress as a musician and started working on material entirely by himself - and it had taken his music in ‘really cool direction’. He then added that he wished the demos would surface, but confessed that he wasn’t in control of the songs and wouldn’t have a say in regards to their release.

“[Cobain] was headed in a direction that was really cool,” Erlandson revealed. “It would have been his 'White Album'. That's really what he was going towards, a solo album but working with different people. I was really excited about some of the stuff he was working on. I got to see him play it in front of me. That's why I was really sad when he died. He was cut short. Who knows where this music would have gone?”

He continued on to talk about their possible release – saying: “I'm not in control of things. I just wish something would come together. I think the fans would be a lot happier. If nobody ever hears those songs, except for like three people, then that's the way it goes. I heard some talk about somebody putting together some raw, rough acoustic thing.

“There is one cover. I won’t say what it is. I don't own the stuff. I just hope that one day it will be released for fans. It’s just so heartbreaking. It’s not surprising. It’s a very sweet, just touching song.”

Erlandson recently made headlines after performing with his reformed band Hole for the first time in 15 years. The gig took place in New York last Saturday (April 13th) – and you can watch a clip of the performance below.
