Indie-electro singer-songwriter Grimes has revealed that she became so sleep-deprived while recording her new album ‘Visions’ that she started thinking that she was channelling spirits – and that her music was a gift sent from the gods.
The 24 year-old released ‘Visions’, her fourth studio album, in March earlier in the year through 4AD Recordings, and has now opened up about her writing and recording process – which seems to be rather different to your average musicians’.
Speaking to The Guardian, Grimes said: “Once you hit day nine, you start accessing some really crazy shit. You have no stimulation, so your subconscious starts filling in the blanks. I started to feel like I was channelling spirits. I was convinced my music was a gift from God. It was like I knew exactly what to do next, as if my songs were already written.”
But, whilst you may imagine an album written while half asleep wouldn’t return the best results, ‘Visions’ has gone on to be one of the Canadian’s most successful records, charting at #8 in the UK Indie Albums chart and #13 in the US Independent Albums chart.
