Guitar star Jack White has made more accomplishments than most musically, and has a list of accolades that would turn many-a-recognised name green with envy. But, winning awards and breaking records isn't on his to-do-list at the moment – it's becoming the first man to play a vinyl record in space that is White's biggest concern at the moment!
The ex-White Stripes star, who recently released his debut solo album, told none other than Buzz Aldrin – the second man on the moon – that he was working on a secret new project that would hopefully see a record from his own label Third Man Recrds to be the first to be spun in space.
Speaking via Interview Magazine, White said: “We want to launch a balloon that carries a vinyl record player, and possibly that Carl Sagan record, and figure out a way to drop the needle with all that turbulence up there and ensure that it will still play.” He could take a lesson from Brazilian superstar DJ Marky, who uses a scrunched up cigarette box to scratch with a turntable upside down!
White went on to talk about his new solo project, and said: “I didn’t want to go out and make solo records if the White Stripes still existed. I thought that people would be too confused by the two ideas and a lot of people wouldn’t be able to get their head around it. So, in a sense, it was something that was bound to happen one day. But I’m sad about it all the time.”
