Joe McElderry Proud Of X Factor Roots

As he gears up to release his fourth album ‘Here’s What I Believe’, Joe McElderry popped in to see Patrick Kielty on BBC Radio 2 earlier this week where he chatted about songwriting and how he feels about the X Factor.

This album sees Joe co-writing for the first time with lead track (and title track to the album) ‘Here’s What I Believe’ being the first time the public have heard a Joe-penned track.

“It’s one of the first songs I’ve written for any of my albums. I’ve never tried songwriting before and it’s one of my first attempts. I hope people like it because I can’t blame it on somebody else now!” Joe joked. “I was really scared to do it. I think it was a confidence thing and I never wanted to do it but my new manager persuaded me to try it.” He continued “The first song I wrote ‘What Have I Done’ got picked up for the album straight away. Everybody at the label liked it and that gave me a bit of confidence. I’ve got three tracks on the album which is quite a big deal considering I’ve not written before.”

Joe was then asked about his career to date and in particular the X Factor. “I’m always proud of where I came from on X Factor. Without that nothing else would’ve happened. I’ve seen people who slate it and it really annoys me. It’s great that people are having success but they used that show and got 20 million people watching them and that’s how they’re selling albums. Without that show I wouldn’t have been able to do Popstar to Operastar or be on to this new album. I never try to get rid of it, I just try and progress from it."

Joe’s new album ‘Here’s What I Believe’ is a collection of classic love songs given a modern twist alongside new tracks co-written by Joe. It includes his take on Demi Lovato’s ‘Skyscraper’ and the Gene Pitney classic ‘Something’s Gotten Hold Of My Heart’. It’s released on 10th September. The album also includes ‘How We Love’ by Beth Neilson Chapman, who also features on the track with Joe.

Joe will be performing two special album launch shows on 18th September, Mill Volvo Tyne Theatre in Newcastle and 20th September, St James Church in London.

Joe McElderry UK & Ireland Tour Dates are as follows:
