K-Pop Parody Psy's Gangnam Style Becomes Latest YouTube Phenomenon - Watch Now

In recent years, the internet has seen more than its fair share of viral videos - some good, some funny, some rather terrible (see: Rebecca Black). The latest hit video to find its way onto the net comes from an unlikely source; South Korean star Psy, returning after two years to release his sixth studio album, has uploaded the video to his single ‘Gangnam Style’ - and it’s managed to rack up 27 million views in less than a month.

Created as a parody of the K-pop genre, the video features the chubby star - dressed in a dashing blue suit and white shirt - dancing in similar style to that of Will Smith and Carlton’s classic dance to the Sugarhill Gang, whilst surrounded by sexy girls, crazy colours, and gyrating men.

But whilst you may think the international success of the video is simply a joke, Psy - who’s been performing for over 10 years - will soon be travelling to the US for media appearances and even a meeting with Justin Bieber’s producer. The track has even entered the Billboard Social Top 50 - a chart that tracks the most popular music on sites like Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and more.

Speaking to the Wall Street Journal about the track’s success, Psy says: “I didn’t expect it at all. Of course every time I write a song, I hope people like my music. But since I’ve been always a singer for the local market, it never occurred to me that people outside the country would listen to my music. I didn’t even have overseas fans. When I wrote the song, I had only one thing in mind — to create a fun song.”

And create a ‘fun’ song he did - check it out below and let us know what you think.
