The Queen of Twitter herself may have to be stripped of her title a new report claims, after it emerged that up to 71% of her 29 million followers could be fake.
The eccentric pop superstar has long been considered the big shot of the super-popular social networking site, and even broke records back in March after becoming the first to break 20 million followers, with experts predicting that she’s made millions of dollars through the site.
The report also claims that high percentages of other superstar’s Twitters - such as Rihanna, Britney Spears, Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, Madonna, and even stars like Stephen Fry and Wayne Rooney - could be also be fake, though Gaga is the most surprising to feature on the list because of her passion for site - where she labels her followers as her ‘little monsters’.
The report, conducted by Status People says that the 71% is made up of ‘fake’ and ‘inactive’ profiles, whilst the remainign 29% are by ‘good’ profiles.
Explaining the difference between the three, company executive Rob Waller said: “A fake account is setup to follow people or send out spam. They normally have no followers, but follow large numbers of people.
“An inactive account is one in which there has been no activity for a while. They could be real people, but we would describe them as consumers of information rather than sharers of information," he added. "A good account is everything that remains.”
While there may be fake followers online, there’ll only be real fans at her tour dates this year, which see her arriving in the UK in just over a week’s time! If you’re one of those real fans, you can find tickets to her shows via Stereoboard by following the links below.
