Andy Williams Dies Aged 84 After Battle With Bladder Cancer

Legendary pop and jazz singer Andy Williams has sadly died aged 84, following a yearlong battle with cancer.

The platinum-selling singer-songwriter, who also hosted a range of television shows, passed away in his home in Branson, Missouri last night, after being diagnosed with the killer disease last year.

Williams started his career in a quarter alongside his three brothers Bob, Don, and Dick, before starting his own solo career in 1953. He went on to become a best-selling singer of the 50s, and recorded eighteen Gold and three Platinum-certified albums.

The 60s star Williams become a television star, hosting an eponymous weekly show as well as a number of holiday variety shows and one-offs. He even combined both music and film to create Oscar-winning tune ‘Moon River’, which featured in the classic ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’.

After picking up Emmy’s for his television work, confirming his status as both a famous television personality as well as a hugely-talented singer and musician, he opened his own Moon River Theatre in 1992, where he would often perform to sell-out audience for the rest of his life.

After his diagnosis in 2011, he continued to perform as often as he could, telling the Associated Press: “I'll keep going until I get to the point where I can't get out on stage.” Following a bout in hospital in June and July earlier this year, he returned to his family with hopes to return to the stage this September - but tragically lost his battle with cancer.

A truly brilliant character, his family have asked that fans donate to the Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network instead of flowers.
