Dan Reed Returns with New Album Release 'Signal Fire'

Wednesday, 07 November 2012 Written by Catherine Rea

Dan Reed celebrates his 50th birthday with the release of his new solo album “Signal Fire” set to be available in February 18th next year through Zero One and distributed through Townsend Records.

Reed has spent the last couple of years touring the road as both a solo artist as well as part of a band, playing festivals across Europe including the likes of Download and Sweden Rock. During his busy schedule, Reed was able to take 6 weeks off touring in as rented cabin in Sweden in order to write some new material, subsequently influencing his new album musically and lyrically.

“Signal Fire” was recorded at “The CommuneStudios” in Oregon and at “Zero One Studios” based in Prague. The solo album is considered a much harder hitting record than his previous efforts with “Coming Up For Air”, possibly reflecting the subtle movement towards his previous musical roots and songwriting ability.

Reed takes his inspiration from his childhood, growing up on a farm in South Dakota and drawing on bands such as Doobie, Brothers, Kiss, Cheap Trick and Van Halen. It was not until he to Oregon where he began his band “The Dan Reed Network”, later signed to Polydor and released three critically and commercially acclaimed albums between 1988 and 1992, going on to tour with names such as Bon Jovi, Def Leppard and The Rolling Stones.

During the 90’s, Reed began an independent record company in Oregon, helping to promote local bands as a side project alongside studying and acting. Reed was cast in numerous plays as well as gaining small roles in both television and film. Reed went on to move to Jerusalem, working with Israeli and Palestinian musicians, giving rise to the mix of culture and depth in his first solo record, “Coming Up For Air” which was released in 2010.

Dan Reed is set to tour after the release of his solo album, though dates are yet to be confirmed.
