Kasabian's Sergio Pizzorno: 'People Don't Have The Same Response To Guitar-Driven Music Anymore'

Sergio Pizzorno - guitarist of alt-rockers Kasabian - has claimed that guitar music has lost it’s ability to be a major force in music culture, saying that ‘people don’t have the same response’ to seeing or hearing a guitarist nowadays.

Pizzorno made the comments whilst speaking to NME ahead of the band’s headline slot at the Royal Albert Hall last week, and saw him also stating that the new variety in music is a ‘good thing’ as well as ‘very different’.

“It's not so much that bands aren't important, but that people don't have the same response,” he told the site. “It's hard to dominate culture like it used to be; I don't think it's possible anymore. It's so diluted and there are so many outlets, I don't think it can.”

He continued: “When there used to be one music channel that would repeat the same music videos, you were bound to get into Nirvana because they were played all day, everyday. Obviously that's some of the most incredible music ever made, but it was very easy to tune in. Now the choice is a good thing, but it makes things very different.”

Pizzorno may think guitar-driven music is losing its dominance, but Kasabian will still be the main men at this summer’s Hard Rock Calling, alongside rocker Bruce Springsteen. If you’re a fan and don’t want to miss the band’s performance, check the link below and grab yourself a pair of tickets!
