Daft Punk To Premičre New Album At Tiny Australian Town Fair Next Month, According To Reports

Wednesday, 10 April 2013 Written by Elliott Batte

French house duo Daft Punk are reportedly set to premiere their brand new album ‘Random Access Memories’ at a fair in Wee Waa - an Australian town with a population of just 2,100!

The odd revelation came via the town’s local paper The Narrabri Courier, who claimed yesterday that the superstar duo would give their album it’s first public playback at the annual Wee Waa show - which also promises ‘a pet show, showgirl competition, cross cut saw competition, fireworks and much more’ when it takes place on May 17th.

Though the idea seems rather far-fetched, Daft Punk and their management are more than accomplished when it comes to promotion, and Narrabri mayor Conrad Bolton says they are ‘known for breaking down barriers and coming up with new creative, innovative ideas to launch their albums’.

Bolton confessed that at first, he thought a ‘mate was pulling my leg’, but went on to say: “We think Wee Waa is so uniquely Australian, so the folks at Sony Music along with Daft Punk thought it fitted the bill perfectly. Daft Punk are known for breaking down barriers and coming up with new creative, innovative ideas to launch their albums.”

You still may not believe the news, but it does seem to hold some validity - In the Mix reports that Sony Australia have bought the domain name ‘www.daftpunkweewaa.com’.

Wee Waa Show Society president Brett Dickinson is more than excited for the event, and has said: “It’s great for Wee Waa and fantastic for the shire, the flow on effect from this will be fantastic, especially for all businesses in the area. We thought getting senator Fiona Nash to open the show was a bit of a coup, but now our show program has been bolstered 10-fold.”

He added: “This is just one fantastic part of our normally huge and entertaining show, we’ve got a lot of entries for the campdraft, and our horse section attracts a lot of out-of-towners.”

If you’re in or around the area in May, we suggest you grab your Wee Waa Show tickets quick - there’s only 4,000 tickets, and we imagine they’ll sell pretty quickly thanks to this news!
