The nominations for this year’s Ivor Novello Awards have been revealed - and Scottish singing sensation Emeli Sande has been put forward for two awards, as have Alt-J.
The prestigious ceremony, the 58th in it’s history, takes place on Thursday 16th May, and it’s heads have now released the full list of award nominations ahead of the event next month.
Shortlisted for the ‘Best Song Musically and Lyrically’ award is Bat for Lashes’ ‘Laura’, Jake Bugg’s ‘Two Fingers’, and Emeli Sande’s ‘Next to Me’. Sande’s song is also in the running for sponsor PRS For Music’s ‘Most Performed Work’ award - she’ll be competing with Olly Murs’ ‘Dance With Me Tonight’ and Coldplay’s ‘Paradise’.
Alt-J, Plan B, and The Maccabees have all received nominations for the ‘Best Contemporary Song’ for their tracks ‘Fitzpleasure’, ‘Ill Manors’, and ‘Pelican’ respectively. Alt J’s second nomination comes for the ‘Album’ award - their record ‘An Awesome Wave’ goes up against the likes of Ben Howard’s ‘Every Kingdom’ and Lianne La Havas’ ‘Is Your Love Big Enough’.
The soundtracks from ‘Anna Karenina’, ‘Dr Seuss’ The Lorax’, and ‘Ill Manors’ all compete for the ‘Best Original Film Score’ award, while ‘Lucian Freud: Painted Life’, ‘The Mystery of Edwin Drood’, and ‘Upstairs Downstairs (series 2)’ battle for ‘Best Television Soundtrack’.
The remainder of the awards - International Achievement, Outstanding Song Collection, PRS for Music Award for Outstanding Achievement, PRS for Music Special International Award, Songwriter(s) of the Year, The Ivors Classical Music Award, and The Ivors Inspiration Award - will all be presented on the day.
