If you’re into drum and bass, and you haven’t yet had the pleasure of checking out IM:Ltd yet, you’ll find it pretty hard to avoid them in 2013 - they’re pushing out some of the genre’s most interesting and brilliantly produced tracks this year, and a new EP from Ukrainian boy Hibea is the latest addition to their catalogue.
Hibea provides the second of IM:Ltd’s two April releases (the first being Gerwin’s incredible ‘Against the Clock’) with the ‘White Owl’ EP, and it even comes with a vinyl release for all you wax-fanatics out there. It’s title track is another monster hailing from the realms of low frequencies and ear-splitting drums, and fits rather nicely on top of Gerwin’s ‘Against the Clock’ - perhaps a tactical move from the one like Caine, the overseer of IM:Ltd’s slave labour factory in Paris.
A brilliant dark roller (I’m a sucker for the chopped and processed amens that cut into the track), it’s been given the remix treatment from Fade, who’s jungle’d the tune right up with a brilliant Bladerunner-esque bassline. Also included on the EP is the more melancholy cut ‘The Form’, which itself has been given a remix - this time by the talented Phil Tangent. Phil’s moody piece features as the B-side on the vinyl release, alongside the title track.
