Jack White Unveils Record Store Day Recording Following Voice-O-Graph Offer

Wednesday, 24 April 2013 Written by Elliott Batte

Record Store Day ambassador Jack White has unveiled the track he recorded in the Third Man Records Voice-o-Graph - a cover of Loretta Lynn’s classic tune ‘Coal Miner’s Daughter’.

Available to stream below, it’s one of many recordings that were pressed onto plastic in celebration of Record Store Day, following White and Third Man Records’ offer for fans to come in and use their 1947 Voice-o-Graph - the only public vinyl recording booth in the world.

The machine - which lets you record up to 111 seconds worth of material before it’s pressed onto a six inch vinyl disc - saw a load of fans reaching the Third Man Records store, with Neil Young also attending and recording (though his remains a mystery).

Third Man have since commented on the event, and wrote on their blog:

“Whether it was a marriage proposal, folk song, last will and testament, poem, one act play, a Sir-Mix-a-Lot cover or birthday greetings, accompanied by everything from a vintage 1920's Gibson mandolin, a boombox or an iPhone, every last recording from the booth was inspired and fulfilling.”

You can check out White’s recording below!
